Can i solder thin tin or metal ?
I am just wanting to know if i can solder thin metal as im wanting to make a wall hanging without using a welder. I would only be using a very light tin. Also what sort of soldering iron would i need to purchase? Would it need to be heavy duty?

You can do it without a soldering iron and rather better.
Soldering irons just heat an area to the temperature required so the solder melts when it's on contact with it..
Plumbers use butane or paraffin blowlamps to get the heat because soldering irons are not powerful enough.
For thin metal you can just heat it over the cooker or with a portable butane torch, apply the solder and when the solder has run evenly over the areas you wish to join, remove the heat.
You have to get the metal prepared first by removing every trace of oil or grease by using a solvent or detergent and hot water. Dry it, preferebly by heating it, and rub a clean fine file or sandpaper across the areas you want to solder to make a surface with a good key, just like painting.
Brush it off and fix the bits together with wire. Heat it on the cooker or with a butane torch and apply the solder to the joint.
Keep it hot for a second or so till the solder has run right through the area you want and then let it cool before taking off the wire fixings.
Some metals don't take solder but most do.
Tin cans are easy to solder. One of my telescope tubes is made from six very large catering size tin cans well soldered round the rims and it's lasted me or years.
I make telescopes for a hobby.
It's best to wire the pieces together with paper clips or coat hanger wire to fix them in place and then apply the heat, touch the solder to it until enough has run through the joint and then let it cool completely before removing the fixings.
If several areas are to be soldered you can use a pair of pliers or simlar as a heat sink between them to avoid remelting a bit you've already done.
