Is it possible to iron on patches to a soccer ball?

Silly question, but I have a friend and she is a big soccer/futbol fan. With the world cup coming up, I thought I would get her a soccer ball as a gift, but I would spruce it up a little bit, by ironing on her two favorite cartoon characters onto them. I know you can iron on patches to almost anything, and was wondering if it was possible with a soccer ball as well? If so any suggestions on how to best go about executing this. Thanks.

Ironing them on most likely would not work well. Most lower end balls have synthetic covers that could melt and the patches would fall off rather quickly.
You best bet is to use a hot glue gun. You can pick up craft types guns at most retail stores or your local hardware store for a few dollars if you don't have one already.
